Nitric Oxide (NO) is a potent signaling molecule involved in the regulation of various cellular mechanisms and pathways under normal and pathological conditions including immune, cardiovascular, reproductive, neuromuscular, and nervous system function, vasodilation, neurotransmission, cell migration, and apoptosis. NO exerts numerous effects on the kidneys, heart and vasculature as well as on peripheral metabolically active organs (1,2,3).
